2007/2008 Bike Moves

Intro/Background

  • What's your animation about? This is a stop motion of me chasing my bike around Huntsville parks and streets after I discover it's broken away from the bike rack in big Spring Park.

Sources

*my bike

*me

*bits of time captured here and there over several days and no, going on a couple of weeks.

  • Book Source #1
  • Book Source #2

Ideas for the paper

*Just wanted to practice making inaminate objects having emotion, and figured since I usually had my bike at lunch time that then would be a good time to do so. Kind of took on a life of it's own after that.

  • Direction you want to take the animation

I want this to be in a sepia toned silent film style with title cards.

  • Need to do any interviews for primary sources?

Nope.

[Update 2091024 Finished the bike animation and called it 2x1 HSV Two wheels, one engine (me) Huntsville.  I entered it into the Alabama Filmmaker's Co-op 5th year Rocket City Film Festival and got the 3rd largest amount of applause .  w00t!

|Update 20080119 Got all the footage I need now, including turns for the axis changes.

Update 200711133 Shot several stop motion shots of my bike going over bridges around town, and underneath the Holmes bridge.

Update 20071017 Found a good combination for video editing in Ubuntu debian gnu/Linux. I use Kino in conjuction with dvgrab to capture, and I use KDEnlive for more advanced editing. The latter program is closest to what I like from a video editor. I can't live without an advanced timeline mode. Plus, it has open effects for import so I can create my own for transitions pretty easy. It's still only at 0.5 release, but is working pretty well for my needs. Just wish it wasn't so KDE centric as I prefer the Gnome desktop.

2006 Catellite

Intro/Background

  • What's your animation about? This is a planned 2D animation of why cats suddenly bolt up from naps wildly to suddenly nap somehwere else.

Sources

  • Our Hooey cat at Flickr
  • LOL cats-I will not copy or trace or swipe from these, but will use them to get some expressions and basic cat anatomy down in a cartoony way.
  • Book Source #1
  • Book Source #2

Ideas for the paper

  • Honestly, I just thought about it about a month before our Hooey cat showed up last 2006 November. A friend reminded me that I had read Fritz Leiber's short story, "Space-time fro Springer" a year before and had forgotten about it. The animation is not about the central thesis of that story, though one of the ideas is shared.
  • Direction you want to take the animation-I want this to be whimsical, not laugh out loud funny, but-charming.
  • Need to do any interviews for primary sources? No, Hooey's not talking. I do , however, need to figure out the best way to get production sketches in here after scanning them or drawing them directly in my computer (Probably going to use KToon).
